Brilliant But Cancelled

When I first got satellite TV, one of the stations I found was called Trio. Trio was a station that thrived on reruns, but not the same shows that most other stations showed… instead, their pool of shows tended to skew more towards the cultural or kitschy side of things. It was a great channel, and they had a block called "Brilliant But Cancelled", which ran episodes of shows that were on the air for extremely brief periods of time. Below the cut is a list of some of my favorite shows that lasted for a handful of episodes before getting the plug yanked on them.

Knight Rider Again

Cracked AMV Experiment – Dirty Mercury

Back in 2000, the cultural tsunami that was Japanese Anime was swollen and consuming entire coastlines.  Shows like Dragonball Z and Pokémon had handed what was formerly a cultish, dungeon-dwelling society over to people who formerly used words like "japanimation" and who, if asked to name one anime, would only be able to give you "Voltron".  One such tribute that arose from all of this was the AMV (Anime Music Video), the practice of applying scenes from an anime to a song to make a (surprise) music video. 

And why have I spent this long, building up with a semi-epic intro?  I made an AMV!  Okay, that’s a lie.  "Made" is a very strong word.  I stole an AMV!  To the jump! Read the rest of this entry »
