FACEOFF! Archives

Two epic fighters that have taken down entire empires… but what happens when they are paired off against each other?  You decide in the forums, tale of the tape is behind the jump!

Tecmo's titan of ninjitsu

RYU HAYABUSA

Ryu Hayabusa originally started his path of violence to avenge the death of his father, and then the slaughtering of the entire Hayabusa clan.  Ryu can wallwalk, can cause his enemies to burst into flames with a single wave of his hand, and has taken on rogues much larger and much stronger than him, yet he has beaten them all.  Will he be able to fend off another super ninja?

VS

STRIDER HIRYU

Strider is a ninja from the future, a hack-and-slash warrior that takes on giant mechanical beasts and Russian brutes weilding guns that shoot knives.  While he is retired, he is constantly lured out of retirement for one more battle, and always comes out ahead… but how does he fare against Hayabusa?  You decide!

This one is a close call.  Not only can both of them take on large foes but they can take on multiple foes as well.  And there not always other ninjas.  But I am going to have to go with Ryu, because he has that old school ninja vibe to him.

I think this one has most people at a loss.  Straight and pantsless, I think Ryu probably has the superior skill level, but you can't discount Strider's hardware advantage in a no-holds-barred match.  In the end, I think Strider loses, for no reason other than he was obviously too slow and careless to kill everyone involved in the NES Strider port before it hit the market.  Ryu may have left a priceless artifact capable of summoning a world-ending demon on the floor for an evil ninja to casually sprint up and take, but at least he cleans up after his shit.

I had to think a lot about my choice here because this is a tough one... but in the end, I go with Strider due to his hardware advantage, as Axel pointed out.  That, and I liked Strider 1 and 2 better than I liked the first two Ninja Gaiden games.  And no, not the shitty Genesis Strider 2.
