Does your gaming rig let you down?  Is that bulky fan making too much noise in your computer?  Scientists may have the answer, or they may be full of gas.

New Silicon Compond Doesn’t Need Cooling?

That obligatory nuke finger everyone thinks is cute for some reason.

What happens when you get Canadian and German scientists together?  The best beer ever!  But no, rather than working on the brew to end all brews, they’ve been working on a Silicon-Hydrogen cooling system.  Silane (SiH4, for you chem-geeks) is the compound, and it’s believed that putting it under high pressure turns it into a super conductor that would not require any cooling.

My first assumption was "aww leet, phat CPU tweakage!"  Given further research outside of the press article, it seems that Silane is actually pyrophoric in air.  This means when exposed to the air we breath, the gas spontaneous explodes.  Now, I’m no scientist.  The world can be thankful for that.  But, isn’t exploding the opposite of not needing cooling?  That’s like if I told a girl that I didn’t have Herpes, then when she gets them, I add in "yeah, I don’t have Herpes, but people I sleep with keep getting them."
