Back in 2000, the cultural tsunami that was Japanese Anime was swollen and consuming entire coastlines.  Shows like Dragonball Z and Pokémon had handed what was formerly a cultish, dungeon-dwelling society over to people who formerly used words like "japanimation" and who, if asked to name one anime, would only be able to give you "Voltron".  One such tribute that arose from all of this was the AMV (Anime Music Video), the practice of applying scenes from an anime to a song to make a (surprise) music video.

And why have I spent this long, building up with a semi-epic intro?  I made an AMV!  Okay, that’s a lie.  "Made" is a very strong word.  I stole an AMV!  To the jump!

From the years 2000 to 2006, one of the recognized pioneers of AMV creation was William Milberry, founder, owner, and be-er of Aluminum Studios.  His work was rather good, and probably my introduction into the practice.  My first work of his, gained by means of a friend, was "Blue Mercury", placing Sailor Mercury of Sailor Moon to Blue by Eiffle65.  So, it’s been on my hard drive for many years now.  While goofing off, getting the hang of Windows Movie Maker, being the in-depth and featureful application that it is, I loaded this video up.  I then turned off the audio and added the first song misfiled in the root of my D drive.  The result was strangely synced magic.  Sad, sad magic.  I present to you the cracked AMV experiment, Dirty Mercury.

What are people saying about "Cracked AMV Experiment - Dirty Mercury"?

That synched up pretty well and it made the video funny due to the subject having nothing to do with the series. Well done old boy.

I went back and actually listened to the lyrics while watching it.  Now I'm thoroughly creeped out.  Right down to little things like:

The words "they hatin" are used three times, the first time, Mercury is angry, the other two, someone is crying.
"Police think they can see me lean" has her lean back on the word lean, immediately followed by,
"When you see me ride by they can see the glean", with a bright flash of her crystal on the word glean.
"But we packin somethin" is perfectly synced with a pan of her *coughs* assets.
"locked up in the maximum security cell" has the heavy doors opening.
"Got warrants in every city except Houston" and "With no regards for the law we dodge em like fuck em all" accompany the two 'spot light' poses.
The last "my music" accompanies her harp.
And more than I'm going to list.

Now, had I "made" this video, yeah, that would be appropriate, and pointing these things out would be an artist pompously explaining his work.  But, since I didn't do any of that... By George, I've found my own Dark Side of the Moon and Wizard of Oz!  ... Albeit, somewhat shorter with less popularity and marijuana.
