Welcome back to the stage of history. It’s Monday, October 22nd and it’s funny how time flies. I can’t believe it’s Monday again! What happened to the rest of last week? Did it fall down an invisible hole? Is it hiding in your closet? Did it get misplaced in the fridge behind what you think is guacamole (it really isn’t)?

Who knows!

In the end, we can only soldier on. My advice to you is to be a "do be", and don’t smoke doobies because you could fail a drug test and not get a job! Lord knows you need to get out the house, especially right now, because HE’S RIGHT BEHIND YOU.

Monday Mash-Up coming up.

Short Mash-Up this week, but I expect the Monday of Halloween week to be fruitful and chockful of goodness.

Let’s begin!

30 Days of Night is Number One At The Box Office

Has anyone seen this? I haven’t, as the only thing interesting about the commercials was the use of a relatively obscure Muse song. If I want to watch shaky cam fueled violence I’ll watch any popular action movie over the past five years- get your shaky cam out of my vampire related horror movies, damn it! It’s been a while since I read the original miniseries, so I think I can wait for the DVD on this one. Tell me how it is, however, and I’ll give you a cookie. Who knows, it could overtake Van Helsing as The Worst Movie I’ve Ever Seen! Only time will tell!

Veronica Mars vs. Heroes: Whoever Wins… Wins?

Tonight, Kristen Bell, formerly of Veronica Mars, hits up Heroes in what most people are hoping will turn the show around from whatever slump it’s perceived as having right now. Personally, I watch the show and dig it muchly, but that’s because I have oodles and oodles of fun trying to calculate how much Soul Glo Micah has had to use to get his curl like that.

It’s the little things that amuse me, people.

Anyway, Heroes is suffering from People Can’t Wait Syndrome, where People Can’t Wait to get to the good stuff, i.e. fights, wacky plot developments, storylines that don’t remind them of X-Men plotlines from the mid-to-late nineties, etc.. (NOTE: Someone can honestly do a mishmash of Heroes clips mixed in with the words "X-Men Did It!" interspersed, throw it up on Youtube, and get, I dunno, ten thousand hits and five hundred… hits more. Just give me credit). Now, the big question is… will the show turn the proverbial corner tonight? I’m sure the internet will let us know shortly after 10:00 pm EST.

Sony Hates You, But Doesn’t Want You To Know So You Must Read The Box In Order To Hate Them If You Didn’t Already

So, the PS3′s getting cheaper, but backwards compatibility takes the loss. gameindustry.biz has all the info, but if you ask me, this is dumber than a box of rocks. I don’t know about most gamers, but being able to play old games on the same console works wonders for me. If I don’t have to go and dig up an old piece of hardware to play an import copy of, I dunno, let’s say Fire Pro Wrestling, then I’m happy. It’s not a case of me being lazy, it’s a case of convenience. Hell, with all the Home delays and the fact that MGS4 won’t be out for a little bit longer, backwards compatibility was probably a nice selling point for PS2 owners or die-hard Sony fans that hadn’t quite made the next-gen jump just yet. But, soon, there will be no more of that. The price for a 40 gig PS3 might be $400 soon, but if it doesn’t have backwards compatibility, it can just go get f’ed in the a. I hate it when folks ruin a good thing… way to go Sony, because I forgot what video game based disappointment in a company felt like.

What Happened to the Comics Rant?

I will explain on Wednesday with a rant about the Comics Rant during the Comics Rant, if that makes sense.

DVDs That Peak My Interest This Week

The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones Vol. 1 – Does anyone know if these are canon now? I’d heard a few years ago that they weren’t, but now with part IV coming out, all bets are off. Anyway, this is the first of three boxed sets, and from what I remember, this was a fun little series. It should be good to Netflix at the very least.

Fido – A movie about domesticated zombies in the 1950s? I WANT SIX COPIES BECAUSE I WILL PROBABLY WEAR OUT FIVE.

Hellraiser: 20th Anniversary Collection – You know, most people have forgotten that Pinhead used to be a credible villian, if you could call him that. Hell, in this first movie, he wasn’t even known as Pinhead- the mofos called him "Lead Cenobite". In the short story ("The Hellbound Heart" by Clive Barker) that this movie was based on he was known as the Engineer. In this movie, he only had a handful of lines, but man oh man do they stick. If you need a Hellraiser movie in your collection, this is the one to get; the sequel’s not too shabby either (excellent production design in that one), but you can never go wrong with the original.

Hostel: Part II – Because the first one was that damn good. "Torture porn"? That term is juvenile, used by people that just don’t GET it, and does not exist in my vocabulary. This is just fun filmmaking… and is that so wrong?

The Saw Trilogy – The Saw III Director’s Cut comes out this week, but if you are like me and have not seen the Saw films yet are interested in what all the scuttlebutt is about, you might wanna pick this up. This is one of the few modern trilogies that actually has a connecting story that doesn’t haul off and dive out an 82nd story window sometime during the third act of the second movie. If we’re going to be forced to endure "trilogy" after "trilogy" after "trilogy" (note: "Lord of the Rings" is a real trilogy, "Pirates of the Carribean" is not… squirt your mind grapes on that one!), then I’d rather them interlock like this than… I don’t know, Resident Evil/Apocalypse/Extinction, where characters become stupid in order to service the damn plot. Mike Epps… why?

Stanley Kubrick Warner Home Video Director’s Series: I’m only mentioning this because I only want one movie in this set of six, and that’s Full Metal Jacket, which is not being sold separately from this set. Yeah, I suppose I could pick up an older edition, but I want to see the hardships of Joker and Gomer Pyle in anamorphic widescreen and in a two disc set, damn it. Why is this not separate?! WHAT THE FRENCH, TOAST.

Youtube Goodness

In honor of Scrubs coming back this week, I only have one clip, but it’s a fun one!

And That’s It

Do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars, but do come back, ya hear?

Ya heard.

Word.

What are people saying about "Monday Mash-Up"?

Ah, sweet sweet Monday Mash-Up.  Quickly becoming my primary source of weekly news.  Is that so wrong?

The Mash-Up is gonna be late this week- dealing with family until Wednesday or so.  Except some weird funky hybrid column when I'm back.

My apologies for the formatting.  The editor was being evil.  I'll be messing with it all day.
