Greetings, salutations, and welcome. It’s Monday, September 10th. I’m all geared up for football season so my TV’s on the NFL Network in the background because it calms me. I’ve been gone from the front page for a long time and my brain is wonkier than usual. No, I have still not seen Rob Zombie’s "Halloween"- personal circumstances take precedence over a movie that’ll be out on DVD by the end of the year (already rumored to be a ‘director’s cut’ with the workprint footage back in), so I think that, more than anything, it deserves a shot to be the "Worst Movie in Brick’s World" and possibly take that title away from "Van Helsing".
We’re just going to have to wait for a couple of months in order to find out, though.
But, I digress! Like, I said, it’s Monday. There’s another four days left until Friday. All sorts of crazy stuff could happen… but what are people "talking" about right now?
Hrm… Kanye West threw another "tantrum" at the VMA’s- this being his second MTV-related "tantrum" after a dustup at the VMA’s in Europe last year. Folks can’t tell him nothing, and MTV won’t give him nothing either. Maybe it’s a sign that Kanye and MTV don’t mix? Does MTV even play videos anymore? Does Kanye really want that damn demographic anyway? Is MTV still important? Someone let me know; I haven’t watched it since "Fear" was on and I thought about trying to get on the show for the sole purpose of scaring folks. Hey, at least I had motivation to sell out back in those days, now I just want the money… which is why I’ll be hijacking "Kid Nation" later this fall.
Yeah, I’m lying.
In other news: Britney Spears’ "comeback’ figgity-figgity-failed, as from what the internewshighway shows in some crazy pictures, she looked like she was drugged up and having trouble with life performing. Do we at AbG care? No. I just wanted to type that out so I could smile. Trust me, I know when I’m strung out on Zipfizz, Red Bull, and microwave White Castle no one will give me any sympathy. They’ll just wonder when my heart will explode so they can take my DVDs.
Harsh? Yes, but like I said, it’s Monday. A little hate will see us through the rest of the week.
What else is going on? Two frickin’ huge DVD releases for horror movie fans this week: MGM releases the first Miramax movie ever, and one of Jason Alexander’s finest contributions to celluloid that he probably doesn’t want you to know about: The Burning. Have you ever seen a bunch of campers SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER in broad dayliSPOILER? You can this Tuesday! This movie was banned in the UK in the mid-eighties, and I’ve only seen it on cable once… it seemed to be cut to shreds. Now, it’s being released with two of my favorite words in the description (reportedly): Uncut and Uncensored. However, if they hit consumers with a screw-up of Capcomian proportions (Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, I am still looking and farting in your direction damn near ten years later), I will beat someone in and around the face and neck with a sock full of quarters due to being mislead by (alleged) false advertising.
Who wants to volunteer?
MGM’s double shot of horror continues with Stuart Gordon’s "From Beyond". This was the followup to "Re-Animator", and only existed on DVD as a crappy Hong Kong bootleg until tomorrow. What makes this awesome is that this is not only Uncut and Uncensored, but it is also Remastered and the Director’s Cut. In layman’s terms, "some dudes found some footage and they cleaned the whole movie up and put the footage back in". Snazzy, eh? You bet, and I won’t just buy that for a dollar, I’ll buy it for $14.99. Hopefully we’re that much closer to "House of Reanimator", because if there’s something the world needs, it’s more reanimated corpses on screen and more Jeffrey Combs.
Now: What. Else.
Eh, nothing for me to cover at this time. Am I jaded and highly biased in my coverage? Yes, but it’s Monday… and it takes my brain at least until Wednesday to realize that there’s Other Stuff Out There Besides What I Care About, so give me some time and some caffeine, please. I’ll make you proud and earn your trust while doing backflips at the same time, I swear. I’m planning on this being a recurring feature that covers anything that comes to mind. Anything. Consider that a possible warning.
The rest of the week is reserved for "fun stuff", but what that entails… well, I can’t tell y’all nothing.
